Desert Festival Jaisalmer

Since 1979,it has been an annual feature of Jaisalmer held with great fanfare in February. The sand quivers under the rustic feet of dancers out to capture the culture of the region. The desert pulsates. The city throbs. The golden city comes to life with mystical dances-Ghoomar, Ganguar, Gair, Dhao, Moria, Chari and Tehratal.

The Rajasthan Tourism Development Corporation specially sets up a ‘Tourist Village’ and organises regular bus service during the festival from Jodhpur, Bikaner and Barmer. Exhibiting their skills are craftsmen and artisans and bargain are struck on the spot. Additional thrills are provided by camel rides, camel acrobatics, camel races and camel polo.

There is also a competition for the best bedecked camel, best donned turban by the local inhabitant and a tug of war between musclemen.

The Rajasthan tourism organizes the Jaisalmer Desert fair/festival. There is tourist help cell to deal specially with the problems faced by foreign tourists. The arrangements are monitored by local administration and state of the art Medical vans, equipped with the best of medical amenities, are kept on alert.
