Thanjavur
Capital City Of The Cholas
The land surrounding Thanjavur is known as the “granary of Tamil Nadu”, blessed as it is by the waters of the River Kaveri. Thanjavur is the cultural capital of the region. It reached its pinnacle glory under the later Cholas(10 to 14 AD), who were great temple-builders and developed the art of making bronze figures. They were followed by the Nayaks and Marathas, for the last of whom Tanjore was the southern capital.
