Kalady, a pilgrim center, is situated on the banks of the river Periyar. It is the birthplace of Sri Sankaracharaya, the great Indian philosopher who lived in the 8th century. There are two shrines in memory of Sri Sankaracharaya, one dedicated to him as Dakshinamurthy and the other to the goddess Sharada.There is an ancient Sri Krishna Temple close by, which was the family temple of Adi Sankaracharaya. Another temple known as the international Temple dedicated to Sri Ramakrishna Deva, was completed in April 1976.

Sringeri Mutt Temples
Sri Saradamba and Sri sankara temples were built by Jagadguru Sri Sachithananda Shiva Abhinava Narismaha Brathi Maha Swamingal of Sringeri Sarada Pitha in 1910. It is among top in the list of places to visit in Kalady.
Timing: 0530-1230 hrs. and 1530-2000 hrs.
Brindavan
An altar with Tulsi plants where Aryamba, the mother of Sri Sankaracharaya was cremated.
Crocodile Ghat
This is the spot where Sri Sankara took to sanyasa(renunciation). According to legend, it was here that the crocodile caught hold of him and mother Aryamba permitted him to accept sanyasa and the crocodile disappeared.
Sri Ramakrishna Advaita Ashram
Established by Swamy Agamanda in 1936, the centenary year of Sri Ramakrishna. The shrine was later reconstructed on the model of Sri Ramakrishna temple, Belur Math (Howrah) in 1976 and a life-size marble image of Sri Ramakrishna installed.
Timing: 0500-1130 hrs. and 1530-2030 hrs. The Swami Vivekananda and Social Education Library and a religious reference library have over 8000 books. Free education is imparted to students at the Sri Ramakrishna Advaita Ashram.
Sri Adi Sankara Keerthi Sthambha Mandapam
Sri Kanchi Kamakoti Peetham
A 46 m high, nine ter octagonal tower. The ground floor houses the Paduka Mandapam, a symbolic representation of Sri Sankara’s feet. the first floor has a Geetha Upadesam Centre reminding the visitor of the Bashya (commentary) by Sankara on Srimad Bhavad Geetha. Floors two to seveen contains temple-like structures which instruct the visitors in the Shan Malhas or six ways of worship laid down by Sri Sankara with his four disciples. On the inside walls of the tower is depicted the life and work of Sri Adi Sankara.

Malayatoor Church
8 km. Situated on a small hillock, it attracts thousands of Christians from all over south India. People of other faiths also visit this church. St. Thomas Day is celebrated here (seven days) on the Sunday following Easter.

23 km. An ideal place for swimming in the river Periyar. The annual Shivratri festival is held in Feb/March is one of the most colourful celebrations. The centre of attraction is a Shiva Lingam.

Kallil Stone Temple
22km. A 9th century Jain Temple cut from a huge rock. A flight of 120 steps leads to the temple. It is among top in the list of places to visit in Kalady.

Thattekad Bird Sanctuary
32 km. This bird sanctuary, the only one of its kind in Kerala, was established in 1983. It is a peninsular land of 25 sq. km. formed between the branches of Periyar river in Malayatoor Forest Division. The avifauna includes both nesting indigenous birds and migratory water birds and waterside birds. The notable bird species are the Malabar grey hornbill, great Indian hornbill, gray jungle fowl, heron, egret, jungle myna, woodpecker, rose ringed and blue winged parakeet. Rare birds like the Ceylon frog mouth and rose billed roller are also seen here. Bird Sanctuary is among top in the list of places to visit in Kalady.
