NICOBAR ISLANDS

A group of 28 islands in an area of 1841 sq. km., it is separated by a ten degree channel from Andamans.
Coconut, palm, casuarinas and pandanus are found in abundance here.
Dark crab eating monkeys and pigeons are a common sight at Great & Little Nicobar.
Great is also famous for the Megapode – a rare bird. Indira point in Great Nicobar Island is the southern most tip of India. Surprised! Yes, it is not Kanyakumari as generally considered. Foreigners are not allowed to visit these islands at present. Indians also need special permission to visit these islands.
Car Nicobar
Area. :126.9 sq. km.
Exotic golden beaches , roaring sound of waves , coconut trees all around-this is the charm of Car Nicobar.
Another unique feature of Car Nicobar- huts built on stilts which have the entrance through a wooded ladder. It takes almost 16 hours to reach Car Nicobar by sea from Port Blair. Major attraction among tourist places to visit in Nicobar and other islands.
Great Nicobar

OTHER ISLANDS

Neil Island
36 km from Port Blair, it is connected to Port Blair by a boat service running four days a week. This island epitomises the essence of the Andaman with green forest covers and beautiful beaches. Accommodation is available in the Hawabill Nest guest House run by the Directorate of Tourism, Major attraction among tourist places to visit in Nicobar and other islands.

Havelock Island
54 km from Port Blair, this landscape beauty attracts tourism with its sandy beaches, untouched forests, panoramic views. The Radhanagar beach is really worth a visit.
Boat service are available from Port Blair daily.
Accommodation is available both in private and govt. sector. Dolphin Yatri Niwas is a guest house run by the Directorate of Tourism. Major attraction among tourist places to visit in Nicobar and other islands.

Barren Island

It erupted last in1994-95 and once in 1991, after remaining dormant for almost 177 years. The island has a diameter of approximately 3 kms. and has a big crater.

Long Island
From Phoenix Bay Jetty, one can take a boat which is available thrice a week to visit this island. Lalaji Bay, a beautiful beach with lush green forests is a hot shot tourist spot.
it is situated 82 kms. from Port Blair.
Rangat
For an ecologically conscious tourist, Rangat is worth a visit. Here one can explore the untouched nature, clear blue seas, Curt Bert Bay beach nearby is a turtle nesting ground also. Accommodation is available at Hawksbill Nest.
Mayabunder
Known for its fascinating scenery and beautiful beaches, Mayabunder is inhabited by people who migrated from East Pakistan, Burma and also by ex-convicts. There is also a turtle nesting ground at Karma tang Beach.
To reach here, boat and bus services are available from Port Blair which is 242 kms. by road and 136 kms. by sea.
Diglipur
Known for its juicy oranges, exotic rice and marine life, this island is to the north of Mayabunder.
One can also visit the Kalipur beach at Ramnagar.
The highest point on the Islands, Saddle peak, 732 m high is quite close to this place.
Andaman’s only river Kalpong flows from here. The first hydro electric project of the island is being set up on this river.

 

Little Andaman Island
The Onge tribe, inhabits these islands along with the Nicobarese and other settlers from erstwhile East Pakistan and other places. A waterfall, beach and coconut plantation add to its charm.
